Spotify probably knows you better than you know yourself — thanks to ‘unhinged’ feature

Spotify users are ‘obsessed’ with the daylist feature, but is it any good?

For years astrology fans have relied on star sign traits to tell them everything they needed to know about a person. But it seems there’s a much more modern way to go about this…

Instead of asking someone if they’re an Aries, or a Virgo, all you need to do is find out what their Spotify daylist is called.

Because it turns out the digital music service actually knows a lot more about you than you probably realise.

Every year Spotify shows millions of users around the world that it’s been paying close attention to their music preferences, with their beloved Wrapped campaign.

But it turns out the music platform is also closely monitoring your daily listening habits as well.

The Spotify daylist is having a major moment on social media

People are just discovering Spotify’s daylist feature, which while not new (it launched in September last year), is currently having a big moment on social media.

Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) feeds have been rammed over the last few days with posts about the daylist as people realise that every day can be ‘Spotify Wrapped season’, and the 50 songs in the playlist reveal a LOT about your personality.

For some context, Spotify daylist is a changing playlist that aims to capture your musical mood and tastes at certain times each day.

The website explains: ‘This one-of-a-kind playlist on Spotify ebbs and flows with unique vibes, bringing together the niche music and microgenres you usually listen to during specific moments in the day or on specific days of the week.’

The playlist updates at various points throughout the day and the title of it changes to reflect your usual listening habits at that time — and it’s these incredibly relatable titles that have captured people’s attention.

Screenshots of daylist titles are everywhere, with hilarious examples including ‘Soul Crushing Haunting Monday Afternoon’, ‘Teen Angst Mallgoth Wednesday Afternoon’, and ‘New York Hardcore Straight Edge Tuesday Night’.

Alongside a screenshot of their most recent daylist, X user @BigBeardyBrooks stated: ‘Your Spotify daylist says a lot about you.’ While @LiseDassin shared: ‘The name Spotify gave my daylist…no one knows me like they know me.’

Numerous astrology-related jokes were made, with @gochu_gyaru saying: ‘Don’t tell me your astrology sign; Go to Spotify, search “daylist” and post the title it gave you.’

And @ScarletAstrorum wrote: ‘I don’t want to know your Myers-Briggs type or star sign or IQ. I want to see your daylist.’

Others were ‘offended’ by their ‘unhinged’ playlist titles, that left them feeling ‘hurt’ and ‘personally victimised’.

‘Every day I get absolutely roasted by my Spotify daylist,’ admitted @thesunmaiden. Similarly, @MelOrWhatever said: ‘Spotify daylist is here to hurt my feelings based on the title alone.’

What WTX Lifestyle team learned about themselves from their Spotify daylists…

Lizzie’s most recent daylist was titled ‘Healing delicate morning’ much to her surprise.

She said: ‘Who knew I was feeling so fragile this week? According to Spotify I’ve had the all the feels this week and am in need of some restorative, comforting tracks.

‘You’d think I was going through a breakup or something — I’m not! Clearly January is getting to me, and Spotify knows it more than me.’

Meanwhile, Courtney has been keeping a close eye on her daylist throughout the week and has been fascinated to see the titles change.

‘My favourite so far has been Moody Bilingual Tuesday Evening, which was a chaotic playlist featuring songs from genres such as Bilingual, Western, Scream, Hollywood and Euphoric,’ she said.

‘Tracks on the playlist included Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo, with some Sabrina Carpenter thrown in for good measure.

‘The song choices don’t surprise me at all, but it’s so interesting to see the genres, because I’d never say I listened to anything remotely resembling “scream”, but clearly I do. Who knew?! Not me, that’s for sure.’

    This daylist was VERY unexpected…

Courtney’s other daylists this week have included ‘Lyrical Delicate Morning’ which featured a lot of teen pop and nostalgia ’emotional masterpieces’ (mostly throwback Taylor Swift songs).

She added: ‘My Whatsapp group chats have been going wild over these, with friends sharing their playlists every day. It’s so interesting to learn more about your own listening habits and preferences.

‘Honestly, I can’t believe we didn’t know about this sooner, it’s so much fun!’

And in case you were wondering, daylist highlights from the group chat include ‘Scream Field Hockey Morning’ (What does this even MEAN Spotify???) and ’90s Movies Adolescence Thursday Morning’ (Could we BE anymore Millennial?!)

How to find your Spotify daylist

You can find Spotify daylist on the web player at spotify.com/daylist – or on the mobile app it’s located in the Made For You hub.

Alternatively you can find it by searching ‘daylist’ on the web player or app – with the latter also giving you the time the next updated playlist will drop.

If you’re loving a particular playlist you can also save it to your library – to do so, simply tap the three-dot menu at the top of the playlist (on mobile) or at the top of the screen if you’re using Spotify online, and choose the ‘Add To Your Library’ option.

If you choose not to save a playlist however it will disappear forever once it updates.

‘No one knows me like Spotify knows me.’
