They say laughter cures all and Aisling Bea believes it as she reckons generational trauma is what maker her – and everyone in Ireland – so funny.

The 39-year-old was looking glam as she arrived on the blue carpet to celebrate the premiere of new Amazon Prime show LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland.

She joined her fellow Irish comedians and iconic host Graham Norton in Dublin on Friday, 12 January, for the exclusive screening of the brand new show.

Despite her success in Hollywood – boasting Marvel star and all round icon Paul Rudd as a good friend – Aisling can’t help but return to home for her comedy fix.

The This Way Up star spoke to Metro.co.uk about why Irish comedy is just so much better than comedy everywhere else.

‘Maybe because it’s built out of trauma?’ Aisling pondered. ‘I think the famine is something to do with it.’

Lightening the mood she joked: ‘I suppose you could ask a psychologist rather than the people who are living it. I don’t know, I think it’s very local and for some reason that has a broad appeal.’

At this moment Aisling became incredibly distracted by an ‘iconic horny newsreader’ walking past, pausing the interview to point out her out: ‘I also see Anne Doyle one of our famous news presenters behind you.

‘Walking by and there’s Irish people going *gasp* Anne Doyle. Why am I talking to Metro when Anne Doyle is behind us?

‘That really distracted me, at least I can smile now!’

Aisling was referring to the harder-than-it-sounds challenge on the show of trying not to laugh while nine other comedians try desperately to make you crack a smile.

Joining the Living with Yourself actress was Jason Byrne, Deirdre O’Kane, Amy Huberman, Catherine Bohart, Tony Cantwell, Emma Doran, Paul Tylak, Martin Angolo, and David McSavage.

The comedians were locked together on set for six hours – or more depending who you ask – and not allowed to even smile at each other or miss out on the chance to win money for their chosen charity.

With bold, eye popping gags and just bonkers attempts to make each other laugh, one by one the comedians folded and joined Graham in the host’s room until there was only one left.

The show has been done in other countries, such as Australia, but comedian and actress Amy, 44, explained that she was shocked it took so long to get to Ireland.

‘We’re such good p**s takers. We’re so good at taking the p**s out of ourselves and being nice when we’re sl*gging other people,’ she joked.

When asked why Ireland is just so funny, Catherine, 35, added: ‘Well we can just talk faster so we tell more jokes.’

However, Irish success seems to come down to more than just fast talking as seen with the likes of Aisling, Cillian Murphy, and Barry Keoghan all making moves in the US.

Reflecting on the wealth of Irish success in Hollywood currently, Aisling shared: ‘I wonder do we [do so well in Hollywood] or do Ireland make such a big deal of it when anyone does well?

‘Are we so noisy about it. Like there must be so many French people doing well as well but French people are like “f**k them”, you know?’

Laughing she added: ‘I think there’s so much great talent and so many people are doing amazingly well and on such a large level. Which is lovely because it’s so much more ambitious than imaging you won’t go any further than here.

‘And why wouldn’t we put our stories on a worldwide stage? But I think we also make a lot of noise when anyone does anything, anywhere.’

LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland arrives on Prime Video on January 19
