Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) found herself in a sticky situation in recent Coronation Street scenes when she was arrested for assaulting dog abuser Terry at his home.
However, viewers will know that it was actually Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) who committed the crime, though she failed to mention anything to her family members, even after learning about Evelyn’s arrest.
The arrest was still clearly hanging heavily over Evelyn in more recent scenes, as she turned down lunch with daughter Cassie.
Suspicious Evelyn wondered where she had found the money to buy dinner, but Cassie covered and said she’d been given a raise at work – hiding the fact it was actually the money she had stolen from Terry.
Thankfully, Evelyn was soon informed that another witness had come forward to tell police that they had watched Evelyn walking away from Terry’s house on the day of the assault, meaning that, because his attack happened inside, she was off the hook.

However, PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) made it clear that the investigation was ongoing, leaving Cassie acting shifty.
When Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) later caught Cassie with the money she had stolen, Cassie offered her some to keep her quiet, but Hope wasted no time in telling sister Ruby (Billie Naylor) that Granny Cassie was in the mood for buying presents.
This all ultimately came out when Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) caught Ruby online shopping, and confirmed to Evelyn that Cassie hadn’t received a pay rise from the garage at all.

Having put two and two together, Evelyn confronted Cassie and revealed that she knew she was behind Terry’s attack.
Though Cassie tried to explain, Evelyn wouldn’t listen, insisting that she would never change.
