YouTube and Kick streamer Johnny Somali has been forced to pay a £1,000 fine for being a nuisance, and could be barred from Japan.
Controversial streamer Johnny Somali is known for live streaming himself exploring cities and interacting with people, often in hostile ways, and his recent trip to Japan ended up with an arrest and a sentence for being a nuisance.
The American, who last posted content in September, first got in trouble for harassing people on a train in Japan, but was later arrested for trespassing on a construction site and playing loud music in a restaurant.
The charges for trespassing were dropped but Johnny Somali was sentenced for obstructing a business with loud music, with a ¥200,000 (£1,000) fine, and a possible ban from the country.
He was also charged with obstructing the business of a seperate restaurant in Osaka by playing loud music, which Somali admitted to.
At his hearing in December Johnny Somali said that the music was being played automatically, and added: ‘I am sorry. I promise I will never take videos again,’ according to The Japanese Times.
This week he was found guilty of the charge, and according to Dexerto the American could be kicked out of Japan entirely.
It’s likely that the music that Johnny Somali was playing in the restaurant was triggered by his viewers, not him, through a text to speech function, but the volume was unreasonably high and this is a feature the streamer could have turned off at any time.

During his hearing in December, Somali also said: ‘I am ashamed. I apologise to everyone I have inconvenienced. I will not do video broadcasting in the future. I want to return to my home country, continue my studies, and be a role model for my family,’ according to Jeffrey J. Hall, via Yahoo Japan.
Whether he means that, or he’s just telling the courts what they want to hear, is unclear but only time will tell if Johnny Somali’s antics return once he’s back in the US.
