A kids’ rave company is among the customers scrambling to rebook after Pontins announced the closure of its Southport resort.
Rave Kidz said it had experienced an ‘absolute nightmare’ after being informed in an email that the resort would be shutting down.
The party brand’s manager told Metro.co.uk that they have been bombarded with emails after Britannia Hotels announced the news.
The chain said this afternoon that after ‘assessing the future viability of the park’, it had come to the ‘difficult decision to close our doors’.
Rave Kidz’ manager, who gave her name as Amy, told Metro.co.uk: ‘We received an email this afternoon notifying us that as from today they would be closing and they wouldn’t be able to hold our event in February.
‘It was a bit of a shocker and it’s been an absolute nightmare in the new year letting all our DJs and families know what is going on.
‘We’ve been bombarded with over a thousand emails and messages.
‘Thankfully we’ve been able to move our event elsewhere within the Britannia group so all our families will be ok, so there is light at the end of the tunnel for us.’
Amy said that no reason had been given for the closure in the email. The weekender with DJs, dancers and a laser show has been moved to Norbreck Castle in Blackpool on the same dates and times in February.
The news follows the closure of two other Pontins sites, Prestatyn and Camber Sands, in November.
The Southport destination was shut in the last 24 hours due to flooding by Storm Henk, but the closure has now been made permanent, according to the BBC. Staff were told shortly before lunchtime that the site was shutting permanently the broadcaster reported.
On its website, Pontins said: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Pontins Southport Holiday Park. After assessing the future viability of the park, we have come to the difficult decision to close our doors.
‘Unfortunately, this means that Pontins Southport Holiday Park will be closing from Wednesday 3rd January 2024. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted Britannia Hotels, which owns the Pontins brand, for comment.
