New Year’s Eve is almost here, and many of us will be planning celebrations – large or small – at home this year. But what happens when you realise you’re critically low on Prosecco and nibbles? When are Aldi, Lidl, and Iceland open over New Year 2024?

We’ve all been there. You’re planning on having just a couple of friends over for a quiet evening’s celebrations when suddenly the last-minute requests come flooding in – ‘Do you mind if I bring so and so?’ or ‘XXXX is alright to come as well, right?’

Before you know it, you can be facing a catering emergency and a potentially costly one at that.

Whether you are looking for that final bottle of vino or bacon for the New Year’s Day hangover cure, many discount supermarket chains will have altered open hours over New Year, so it’s important to double-check before you hit the road.

It’s also important to remember that New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday this year, meaning some stores may naturally shut earlier than usual.

Here is what you need to know.

When is Aldi open over New Year 2024?

Aldi stores are open from 9.30am until 4pm on New Year’s Eve, and will be closed on New Year’s Day.

You can check the exact situation with your local branch using Aldi’s local store finder.

When is Lidl open over New Year 2024?

Before Christmas, Lidl confirmed that the opening times for their stores would vary across the country, so it was best to check with their online store finder to get the exact situation at your local branch.

However, the discount retailer confirmed that all its stores would be closed on New Year’s Day.

Lidl also encouraged shoppers to use their Lidl Plus app to access opening times and real-time updates on how busy their chosen store is.

When is Iceland open over New Year 2024?

Similarly to Lidl, Iceland has confirmed that their open times on New Year’s Eve would vary across the country, with many stores usually open from 10am til 4pm on a Sunday and most shut on New Year’s Day.

Iceland also has an online store checker that customers can use to check opening hours at their local branch.
