An 11-year-old boy is in hospital after he was hit by a car in what police described as a ‘serious crash’ in Scotland.

He was walking along a street in Stenhousemuir, near Falkirk, when he was struck by a black Vauxhall Astra on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene in King Street at around 4.20pm and the child was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in an ambulance for treatment.

Police Scotland said a man, 57, who was driving the car was not injured.

The road was shut for around 40 minutes while the incident was dealt with.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the crash.

Sgt Scott Kirkpatrick said: ‘Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed what happened.

‘We are also particularly keen to trace any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time it occurred.

‘Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 2380 of 29 December.’
