Carla Connor (Alison King) has had an absolute roller coaster few days in Coronation Street, having waved off husband Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) on a round the world trip before being introduced to estranged nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll).

Bobby wasted no time in making himself at home in Carla’s flat, much to her annoyance, and, after finally getting in contact with brother Rob, decided that Bobby could stay for a couple of weeks.

In recent scenes, it became clear that Bobby was going to be a more difficult house guest than Carla had first anticipated, after he turned her kitchen upside down in search of a particular brand of cereal.

As Carla was laying down the law, stepson Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) finally arrived home after having been out for several nights, and he was soon introduced to their new lodger.

Simon made a very valid point in asking where they were all going to sleep, but when Bobby suggested top and tailing, Carla was quick to shut him down.

She pointed out that the sofa would be perfectly sufficient given that he wasn’t staying for long, though Bobby soon pointed out that the combination of the sofa and his cerebral palsy had left him having spasms.

Simon was quick to offer up his own bed, explaining that he would go and stay with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) instead, though Carla was very much against the idea, pointing out that they needed to talk about his dad.

Bobby quickly put two and two together and asked if he was ‘the alchy’ everyone had been talking about in the shop, to which Carla quickly sent him out to collect some fish and chips for them all.

When they were finally alone, Carla apologised and insisted she didn’t want Simon to feel pushed out.

He was quick to assure her that he didn’t, but that he couldn’t see Bobby sleeping on the sofa for weeks when he could easily stay at Leanne’s, and revealed that it didn’t feel the same staying in the flat without his dad there anyway.

Carla was clearly gutted by his decision, and Simon’s assurances that Peter would come back soon didn’t help, as she soon corrected him.

With Simon having been pushed out of the flat and actor Alex Bain set to leave the role in the coming months, could this be the start of his exit storyline?
