EastEnders went to great lengths to keep the identity of the Christmas Day dead body and murderer hidden for ten months after teasing the death back in February, and one of those tricks involved faking upcoming scenes.
Before the fateful Christmas Day episode which saw Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) revealed as the dead man and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) as his killer, executive producer Chris Clenshaw explained that they had put several methods in place to stop the secret getting out.
‘We’ve had several methods in place throughout the entire year to keep the storyline a secret and to ensure that the Christmas Day episode and the big reveal of who’s on the floor – plus who does it – remains under wraps until the 25th December.
‘Sadly, I can’t reveal what those methods are as that would give everything away, but it would be a real shame if anyone spoiled the surprise as we know how much the audience love watching the drama unfold in real-time.’

It has now become clear that one of those methods was to film scenes on location involving Keanu which would throw fans off the scent.
It was reported back in November that Danny Walters, who’s character was one of the Walford men on the line up to become the dead body, had been spotted filming scenes with Jacqueline Jossa, who is set to reprise her role as Lauren Branning in upcoming scenes.

Pictures were obtained of the pair filming together, with Keanu seemingly saying goodbye before making a swift getaway.
However, his end was much more grisly, with these scenes having been faked to throw fans off the scent of Keanu being the dead body.

This is not the first time EastEnders have pulled this trick, with Abi Branning actress Lorna Fitzgerald having attended Abi’s funeral to make it look as though she wasn’t the one to die after the terrifying Christmas episode that saw her and Lauren fall from a roof.
With so many twists and turns throughout the Christmas Day episode which eventually saw Keanu meet his demise, it is safe to say that the entire nation was shocked by the outcome, and this little trick was just one of many which kept us guessing from beginning to end.
