A mother has been accused of killing her own five-month old baby girl after she was found with serious injuries at a park in Leeds.
Hayley Macfarlane has been charged with the murder of her daughter Evelyn following an incident at Woodhouse Moor park on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old, from Barnsley, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, West Yorkshire Police have said.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after a police received reports of a baby in a serious condition at the park, which is known locally as Hyde Park.
Officers discovered the child near the junction of Clarendon Road and Moorland Road.
She was rushed to hospital but could not be saved and her mother was arrested on suspicion of murder.
A police cordon was in place until at least Thursday evening while forensics examined the area.
Detective chief inspector James Entwistle, said: ‘The death of a child in these circumstances is clearly a very tragic incident and we are carrying out enquiries to get a complete picture of what has occurred.
‘We would like to hear from anyone who was in the park around this time and who witnessed anything or who has any information that could assist the investigation.’
Woodhouse Moor is a large public park about a mile north-west of Leeds city centre, within an inner-city residential area.
Around 26 hectares in area, it is a hugely popular area with students and is bordered by a large number of student digs.
Earlier this week, a woman was charged with the murder of her four-year-old son who was stabbed to death at home in London.
