Mercedes was adamant that she’d suffered a miscarriage (Picture: Lime Pictures)
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Friday December 29’s episode and beyond, all of which are available to view on Channel 4 streaming as part of the show’s Christmas and New Year boxset.
Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) was convinced that she’d suffered a miscarriage when a routine scan saw the nurse seek a second opinion after being to locate the baby’s heartbeat.
The former pub landlady, as viewers know, found out that she was pregnant a number of weeks ago and, given that she’s engaged to Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) but having an affair with Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas), she’s not quite sure who the dad is.
Warren, who is head over heels in love with Mercy, found out about her pregnancy in the online boxset episodes, after overhearing her talking about it to Nana (Diane Langton) in the hospital.
Knowing Mercedes was keen to reunite with Felix, Warren decided to convince his best mate to take some time away from the village in the hopes of buying himself some time to talk Mercedes into giving him a chance.
Mercedes was adamant that she and Warren could never be together and, worried about who the father of her baby was, she booked a termination but was subsequently unable to go through with it.
Having suffered a miscarriage previously and still struggling with the loss of son Gabriel, who was stillborn, Mercy decided that she did want this baby after all, with Warren promising that he would support her.

In fact, the hard-man booked Mercedes a scan at the hospital and, for a moment, she dared to dream that being a mum again was on the cards for her.
When the doctor was unable to find a heartbeat, however, Mercedes feared the worst and, despite the medical professional setting off to seek a second opinion, Mercedes refused to hang around, believing that she was set to have her heartbroken all over again.
Warren insisted that she stay for the second opinion, believing she was letting her fear cloud her judgement, but Mercedes refused, telling the hard-man that she knows her own body and that the baby is ‘gone’.

The question is: has Mercedes’ worst fears come true once more? Has she lost the baby?
What’s more, where exactly does this leave her and Warren? The two subsequently shared a kiss on the village’s iconic bridge, but Mercedes is still in love with Felix so just who will she end up with?
