Aaron Ramsdale is miserable at Arsenal and should be pushing for a move away from the club in January, says former Gunners midfielder Emmanuel Petit.
Ramsdale spent two seasons as Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper after signing from Bournemouth in 2021 but is now warming the bench, with David Raya getting the nod from Mikel Arteta.
Raya was brought in on loan from Brentford over the summer and it quickly became clear that Arteta considered him his new number one, with the Spaniard playing regularly in the Premier League and Champions League.
Ramsdale has managed nine appearances in all competitions so far this season but does not look likely to get back into the starting XI on a regular basis unless Raya suffers an injury.
Petit feels for the Englishman and says that if he was in his position then he would be looking for the exit door when the opportunity arises.
‘People say that signing Raya was a mistake and he hasn’t been perfect but aren’t Arsenal top of the league?’ Petit told Compare.bet ‘Yes Raya has made some mistakes but he has also made some brilliant saves and he has been excellent in building up from the back.
‘If I was Ramsdale there is no doubt I would ask for a move away in January. I can see he is miserable at the moment and every day he must be waking up thinking “what did I do wrong?”

‘He did everything, and has no reason to feel responsible for dropping him, but you cannot deny that Arsenal are first in the league with Raya in goal.
‘Especially with the Euros coming up, Ramsdale absolutely has to leave. I’m pretty sure there are many, many clubs in the Premier League that would love to have him.’
Speaking earlier this month, Mikel Arteta said: ‘I want Aaron with us. I am very happy to have two very, very good goalkeepers and Aaron is staying with us.
‘He’s willing to play. Like any player, he wants to play for Arsenal. That’s what he wants to do.
‘As well for England, it’s not like he has started a lot of games, so hopefully we can help him be better here so then he can play for England. We want to be better, so we want to add to what we already have. That’s the intention.’
