Details of an additional game have emerged from the Insomniac hack and it seems to be a cancelled live service game.
The Insomniac hack, and the subsequent release of over a million data files, has made last year’s GTA 6 hack look like child’s play, as Insomniac’s plans for the next decade have been laid bare, including several new and currently unannounced games.
Spider-Man 3 might not have been much of a surprise but also listed in their schedule is a new Ratchet & Clank game and a previously un-hinted at X-Men game. But it turns out there was one other game mentioned in the files, called Spider-Man: The Great Web.
The reason that was missed at first is that it seems to have already been cancelled, and yet it appears to have been part of Sony’s initial plans for more live service titles.
After the recent cancellation of The Last Of Us Online there’s been great confusion as to whether Sony still intends to push forward with its live service plans, which at one point involved at least 10 games by 2026.
Clearly that’s no longer going to happen though, especially as they announced that six of the games were being ‘delayed’ to ensure their quality.
Whether they’ve been more than just delayed isn’t clear, but the leaked files show what Insomniac are working on at the moment and when their various titles are expected to be out, and The Great Web isn’t mentioned anywhere.
There are, however, some slides from a presentation, by Insomniac’s chief financial officer, which describe it as an ‘action adventure multiplayer open world title’ with in-game purchases (aka microtransactions).
It’s compared to GTA Online, although there’s no indication that it’s part of a package with a single-player title, as was the case with GTA 5.

GTA but with Spider-Man does sound like the sort of high-concept idea a video game exec would come up with, but there doesn’t seem to be much evidence in the files that work progressed very far.
How much that is indicative of Sony’s wider problems managing its live service plans is open to interpretation, but since every other internal developer seems to have been working on a live service title it’s no surprise that Insomniac was as well.
