Rhona’s (Zoe Henry) obsession with Baby Ivy has been driving a wedge between her and Marlon (Mark Charnock) in Emmerdale. Mary (Louise Jameson) decides to step in to minimise the damage and ends up instead triggering a land mine.
Mary takes on helping Gus (Alan McKenna) to put some distance between Rhona and the situation, but she gets pulled in as easily as her daughter did.
Gus is now busy planning Lucy’s funeral. But he’s not coping, and Mary is alerted to this when the funeral directors give her a call.
Rhona, meanwhile, is going out of her mind in desperation for news. She spots Mary sneaking out to go and see Gus, but in an effort to maintain the distance, Mary keeps it to herself how bad things are for the new dad.

At Gus’ house, Mary is confronted with quite the scene – Gus isn’t taking care of himself at all, and in turn the baby. She pulls a move that no one sees coming – she packs up Gus and Ivy and takes them back to Rhona and Marlon’s.
Marlon is horrified to see who’s moving in and is fearful of the ramifications on his family. The move will leave him in utter turmoil. Actor Mark Charnock told Metro.co.uk: ‘To have them for Christmas is a huge act of will on his part to accept that. While he will say that he accepts it, it’s like somebody’s just detonated a bomb in his world.

‘It’s kind of like it’s nothing to do with him, but it’s everything to do with him.’
It’s set to have a huge impact for him and Rhona.
The baby brings fresh tensions to the household, not just because of her situation but because now everyone is trying to function on no sleep. Breakfast is a strained affair, and Rhona desperately tries to keep things civil.
But Marlon is pushed to his limit and is struggling to cope with the huge changes in his life that he has no say in. Could this be the beginning of the end for the couple?

‘Something like this is so heavy and so divisive and almost impossible to imagine the connotations of it,’ he shared.
‘There could be any outcome to this story. I think Marlon would hope – he wants what’s best for her, but he’s scared of what having that baby in their lives might mean.’
