Hugh Grant has opened up about his efforts filming Wonka, revealing that director Paul King sent him a picture of a naked Oompa Loompa.
The Notting Hill actor is starring in the upcoming remake – which is released in cinemas on December 8 in the UK, and December 15 in the US – alongside a star-studded cast, including Timothee Chalamet, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas and Rowan Atkinson.
The 63-year-old, who nabbed the role of an iconic Oompa Loompa, recently confessed that he loathed the part and was left ‘very uncomfortable’ over the motion capture equipment.
Discussing his efforts in a new interview, he reflected on a bizarre image the filmmaker sent him, which scarred his young children.
‘Paul, quite early on in the editing process, sent me a mock-up of the Oompa Loompa stark naked,’ he recalled to People Magazine.
‘And my little children were a little alarmed at that.’

Hugh shares two children with Tinglan Hong, and went on to welcome three kids with wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein.

Sharing his side of the story, Paul vowed that the images were for work purposes only.
He told the outlet that the VFX team were trying to decide ‘the color of the skin and the way the hair works, and on all the details of it’.

However, the actual Oompa Loompa happened to be naked for the discussions, with a ‘very delicate’ pixelation.
‘It was one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen in my life,’ he laughed. ‘If it ever leaks out, a generation of children will be scarred.
‘It’s just something once you’ve seen, you can’t unsee it.’
Wonka marks the third time Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory received the big screen treatment, following Gene Wilder’s efforts as the chocolatier in 1971, and Johnny Depp’s stint in 2005.

Hugh recently made headlines when he opened up about working on the flick, and explained that it wasn’t quite so glamorous behind the scenes, describing the experience as ‘drivel’.
‘It was like a crown of thorns, very uncomfortable,’ he told Metro.co.uk and other press when touching on having multiple cameras on his face and other equipment to help the animators create the final product.
‘I made a big fuss about it,’ he said. ‘I couldn’t have hated the whole thing more.’
When asked if it was all worth it when he saw the finished product, he shrugged, ‘not really,’ while his castmates laughed.
Fingers crossed we get a sequel.
