Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) is set to face sentencing in tonight’s (December 4) instalment of Coronation Street, and a new spoiler video has revealed the tragic outcome, and the family’s devastating reaction.

Bernie was arrested for handling stolen goods after her laptop scam was uncovered, and was subsequently found guilty of the crime.

This left the family in turmoil, especially given Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) recent prognosis.

Paul was diagnosed with motor neurone disease earlier this year, and was recently informed that he only had between six and twelve months left to live.

As if this wasn’t traumatic enough, Bernie’s solicitor revealed that, because of her criminal background, she could be facing up to six month behind bars, meaning that she may not be around for Paul’s final moments.

In the new spoiler video, Bernie takes to the stand once more to learn her fate, as Paul, Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) watch on from the gallery.

The judge started by explaining that she had taken into consideration Bernie’s mitigating circumstances with Paul’s illness and pointed out that, while she sympathised, she had a duty to uphold the law.

She went on to explain how the crime itself influenced her decision, accusing Bernie of taking advantage of Shelley – Paul’s friend who sadly died of MND – and leading Big Garth, her partner in crime, astray.

The judge also mentioned Bernie’s previous convictions before announcing that, as she clearly hadn’t learnt from lighter punishments, she had no choice but to impose a custodial sentence.

It was then that the judge revealed that Bernie would spend three months in prison, and would have to serve at least half of that time.

As Bernie prepared to leave with the officer, she said a heartfelt goodbye to her kids, who were both in tears.

Will Bernie be released from prison with enough time to make precious memories with dying son Paul?
