A double decker bus roof was torn clean off after it ploughed into a tree.

Passengers were onboard when the shocking smash happened in Bournemouth, Dorset, on Friday evening.

At least one person suffered minor injuries in the incident, which left the top deck seats completely exposed.

Pictures from the scene in West Way Road show the entire top of the vehicle ripped off and hanging dangerously on the other side of the road.

Shattered glass can also be seen scattered across the tarmac next to the bus, operated by morebus.

Police said they were called at around 5.45pm to deal with the carnage.

A Dorset Police spokesman said the force received a 999 call reporting a collision between a bus and a tree.

Firefighters, paramedics and workers from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council also attended.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said earlier on X: ‘West Way Road on Bournemouth is currently closed due to an incident.

‘The road is closed between the junction of Bankside Rd and Castle Lane West.

    ‘Please avoid the area.’

In September, two children were taken to hospital after a school bus roof ripped off in a crash.

Earlier this year, 10 people were injured in a similar incident in Glasgow.
