Andre Onana looked like he had the world on his shoulders after Manchester United’s draw with Galatasaray in Istanbul.
United needed three points to control their own destiny going into the final matchday of their Champions League group.
However, despite twice leading, United were pegged back thanks to two free-kicks from former Chelsea ace Hakim Ziyech.
Onana, a summer signing from Inter Milan, should have easily dealt with both efforts.
The draw means United need Copenhagen and Galatasaray to draw on the final matchday, and the Red Devils have to beat Bayern Munich to progress.
After playing so well in attack, Onana’s mistakes cost United a valuable victory in Turkey.
And the Cameroonian’s reaction at full-time summed up the disappointment of every United fan after the dramatic draw.
Onana threw both of his gloves on the pitch and was visibly distraught, knowing that his errors had cost his side.
Erik ten Hag defended the goalkeeper afterwards by insisting that no individual is to blame for the failure to win.
But a worrying pattern has emerged with Onana and his form in Europe has been particularly worrying.
The goalkeeper has made mistakes in four of United’s five matches.
United have conceded 14 times in just five Champions League group stage matches this term.
