Will Mellor has opened up about why he is reprising his role as Harvey Gaskell in Coronation Street.
The actor, who has also featured in Hollyoaks and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, was last seen in the ITV soap around November 2022, when Sam (Jude Riordan) decided to contact Harvey in the aftermath of his Mum’s murder.
Harvey killed Natasha (Rachel Leskovac) during 2021’s Super Soap Week. He managed to escape prison and headed back to the cobbles with the intention of murdering Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
However, because Leanne and Natasha were both dressed in the same Morticia Addams costume for Halloween, Harvey shot Natasha in error.

Despite being back behind bars, Harvey will make a return in future episodes which will certainly make for dramatic scenes, given his brother Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) is also coming back.
Speaking about the role, Will Mellor told OK! Magazine: ‘I love playing Harvey, even though he’s obviously a nasty person. He’s a narcissistic gangster and I don’t get to play those characters a lot.
‘People loved him, and the producers said, “we’ve got storylines for him, do you want to come back?” I was like, “100%!” Plus it’s my mum’s favourite show and pleasing your mum is always a good reason to do something!’.

Teasing Harvey’s return storyline, which will also feature Damon, Adam (Sam Robertson) and Sarah (Tina O’Brien), producer Iain MacLeod recently told us:
‘It’s a brilliant, exciting, high octane story. I love those characters. They always feel sort of really glossy and really naturally at home in this kind of big Coronation Street storyline.

‘As it shakes down, Damon’s revenge may start to take a backseat to his feelings for Sarah. But just in case you thought that that was all going to be smooth running from there or plain sailing from there, Adam then can’t stand the idea that this guy’s back and he’s maybe got designs on Sarah.
‘He decides in his mind that to protect Sarah, he might want rid of Damon’, he added.

‘So as Damon’s calming down and Adam is going into the direction and his plans to rid himself of Damon, we’ll see him pay a little visit to Damon’s half brother Harvey, because he’s no fan of Damon’s either. And they might form this kind of unholy alliance.
‘They have a shared problem in the form of Damon and think they can help each other in that regard. So it’s yeah, it’s got fantastic actors in it as all stories do. The storyline is packed full of twists and turns and excitement.’
