Cross-country skier Calle Halfvarsson was not the envy of anyone over the weekend, declaring that he froze his penis during a race in Finland.
There are plenty of dangers to be aware of when putting the skis on, and while a ice-cold member may not be the most obvious of them, it is certainly one to avoid if possible.
Halfvarsson was competing in a 20-kilometre World Cup event in Ruka, where temperatures sank to a grim -15 degrees Celsius at the start of the contest.
The Swede finished 18th and he may have been worrying if it was all worth the effort when he revealed the injury of nightmares after the race.
‘I have frozen my penis. For real,’ Halfvarsson told Swedish publication Expressen. ‘Damn, I had to lie in there [the athletes’ tent] for 10 minutes to warm it up. It hurts so damn much. It’s terrible.
‘It’s lucky that I’m about to have my second child because it’s going to be difficult in the future if I’m going to continue like this.’
Asked if he could describe what a frozen phallus feels like, he said: ‘No. Those who know, they know. But here’s a tip from me – stay away from it, because it is the worst thing you can experience.’

Remarkably, this is not the first time Halfvarsson has suffered a dangerously chilled penis, speaking out previously about the issue and admitting he considered quitting the sport.
‘The worst I’ve been through? It was in Finland once,’ he told Aftonbladet in 2021.
‘Then it was really cold and I did not freeze on my fingers or feet, but I froze on another thing.
‘That was the worst thing I’ve been through. Then I thought about whether I should stop skiing. It was… during competition. I was barely getting to the finish line. It was unbelievably cold.’
