Eric opened up about his diagnosis (Picture: ITV)
Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) finally opened up to Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) about his Parkinson’s diagnosis in recent Emmerdale scenes.
Eric had been determined to keep his diagnosis a secret, but ended up confiding all in Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) several days ago.
Following that, he was stunned to learn that grandson Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) had read his medical records and was also in on the secret.
Determined for no one else to find out, Eric made the difficult decision to break up with Brenda, under the impression that he would be protecting her.
Of course, not knowing Eric’s true motives, Brenda didn’t see it that way, and was left completely broken hearted.

Following Eric’s sudden change of heart, Brenda was devastated to find a necklace among his belongings, and came to the conclusion that he must have another woman.
When Eric arrived home, she confronted him, but a card inside the box proved that he had bought the necklace for her.
Totally confused, Brenda demanded answers about why he had really broken up with her, only for Eric to reveal that he was trying to save her from his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

When Brenda asked ‘how long’, Eric revealed that he could live a very long time as it wasn’t a death sentence, but Brenda was quick to point out that she meant to ask how long he’d known about the diagnosis.
She was stunned when he explained that he had noticed symptoms some months ago, and couldn’t believe that he hadn’t talked to her about it.

When Eric explained that he’d wanted to save her from ‘being his carer’ she was furious, and told him he had no right to make that decision for her.
She promised that she was going to stick by him, despite his protests that things were going to get hard and he may not be the same man again.
With Brenda finally aware of what’s been going on, will Eric find the courage to open up to the rest of his family?
