All eyes are on Rockstar (Picture: Rockstar Games)
A simple announcement from Rockstar has become the most-liked gaming related tweet ever in a 24 hour period.
Anticipation for a new Grand Theft Auto game from Rockstar has been brewing for the better part of a decade, despite not so much as an official screenshot or description – but that should all change next month.
Earlier this week, Rockstar finally unsealed its lips and announced that the first GTA 6 trailer will be released in early December.
All that pent-up energy, since GTA 5 launched in 2013, has now finally been unleashed, with the tweet announcing the trailer’s reveal becoming the most-likedgaming related tweet ever, over a 24 hours period.
Right now, the tweet has a towering 145 million views, and no less than 1.4 million likes and 477,000 reposts, despite not showing any artwork or even a game logo. On top of that, Rockstar’s Instagram post announcing the trailer has almost 2.5 million likes.
What exactly the trailer will show is unknown, and there could be a minor backlash if it’s a disappointment, but given the hunger for GTA 6 there seems little doubt that it’s going to be a massive hit.
It’s probably unlikely that the trailer will reveal a release date for the game, but it’s likely to be out next year, if Rockstar is ready to start promoting the game now.

Hopefully the trailer will make it clear whether GTA 6 is set in modern day Vice City, as rumoured, and who the main characters are – although that detail was not revealed in the initial trailer for GTA 5.
Instead, it concentrated on showing off the visuals and a first look at the city and other locations, so you should probably expect the same from GTA 6’s initial trailer.
Since it’s currently only scheduled for ‘early’ December the other question is whether that means it’ll be at The Game Awards, which take place on December 8.
Rockstar don’t usually attend other people’s preview events but given the popularity of the awards show they may feel it’s the appropriate venue.
