Critically ill baby girl Indi Gregory will be moved to an Italian hospital ‘in a matter of hours’ despite an ongoing legal battle.
The eight-month old will be transferred to the Bambino Gesù Hospital, Rome, which has agreed to treat her illness, after the Italian government intervened and granted her citizenship.
Her parents, Dean Gregory and Claire Staniforth, from Illkeston, Derbyshire, wanted her treated in Italy rather than in the UK where doctors were poised to end her life-saving treatment from assisted breathing.
But Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni has vowed to do what she could to ‘defend’ Indi’s life.
Doctors and medical staff are on standby at the hospital and confirmed it was ‘ready’ to accept Indi for treatment.
Indi has a mitochondrial disease, a genetic condition that saps energy.
