Grand Designs viewers all have same complaint about new episode

Grand Designs viewers were left unimpressed this week for a very specific reason.

On the latest episode of the long-running series, retired furniture maker Lucinda, who has had a lifelong love affair with wood, shared her ambition to build an entire home made of the material in South Herefordshire.

Her plan was for it to be a two storey, high insulated and low impact home set in the woodland just above the old family home where her children grew up.

With a very modest construction budget of £150,000, she faced difficulties along the way as methods had to be figured out how to transport materials through the woodland without damaging roots or vegetation, and to build a structure without any heavy machinery.

At one point there were also concerns columns built for the home could ‘explode’, but luckily, they managed to avoid disaster.

But when it came to the end of the episode, people watching on at home weren’t happy when they realised they wouldn’t be seeing the final product after Lucinda shared she was taking her time to ensure she finished the build to the standard she desired.

While the structure itself was complete, most of the inside of the home was still empty, with plans for a mezzanine the only part of the interior that could be seen.

Viewers were frustrated by the fact they’d waited to see how the project had come together, only to be left disappointed by an incomplete build.

Many shared their thoughts on social media soon after.

‘Right that’s it I’m not watching Grand Designs again! Another week and another unfinished project!’ one person posted on X, formerly Twitter.

‘Another week. Another shed,’ someone else lamented.

Another added: ‘Nothing more annoying than an unfinished house when the programme ends.’

However viewers were frustrated they got to the end of the episode to see the home incomplete (Picture: Channel 4)

Meanwhile many viewers said they’d be happy to wait to see finished projects.

‘Why does Grand Designs show such a wonderful but half-finished house? The lack of interior detracts from such wonderful craftsladyship. We’re happy to wait for the finished article!’ a viewer explained.

Their annoyance comes after viewers also last week took aim at a couple who had created bespoke tiles for their build, with the bright design leading some to say they should have purchased them from a local DIY store.

Graeme, an architect, and his partner Melanie, from Germany, flew to Marrakech, Morocco to design and collect the tiles for their garage plot conversion.

However, many viewers weren’t fans of the red and blue colour scheme, with some joking the couple should have just gone to B and Q and saved themselves a trip overseas.

After going over budget and running out of cash, their episode also ended with an incomplete build as they had been unable to finish the renovations.

Grand Designs continues Wednesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
