King Charles has promoted his aide to ‘super equerry’ making him his new right-hand man.

Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson reportedly received his promotion after he charmed Charles and Queen Camilla.

He was due to leave the army within 18 months, ending his current role as equerry, The Sun reports.

But the royal couple are so fond of Thompson, 40, they have offered him the promotion which will see him tasked with organising Charles’s private affairs.

Thompson has also won over royal fans after viewers branded him a ‘hunk’ at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

He has since made further appearances, including at the King’s coronation.

Admirers will now be able to ‘see a lot more of him’, with an insider saying Charles pulled a ‘decent trick by picking a social media sensation to be right-hand man’.

Thompson, of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, is involved with assisting the King with his daily duties, which includes standing next to him, looking after his carriages, coaches and Rolls-Royces.

He was one of the late Queen’s most senior bodyguards, and made third place on Tatler’s Social Power Index, which details where the ‘real power lies in Britain’.

The dad-of-one is known on TikTok as ‘Major Eye Candy’, has a ‘fabulous sense of humour’ and ‘looks good in a kilt’, according to the publication.

He came the subject of royal watchers’ affections after he was at the centre of events following the Queen’s death.

He was caught on camera removing a pen tray which was cluttering the King’s desk as the proclamation declaring him as King was signed.

Thompson was also seen in the procession when the Queen’s coffin was escorted from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.

He met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in February, and greeted Liz Truss when she met the King in October 2022.
