Britney Spears has hit out at her time judging on The X Factor US in her memoir The Woman in Me.
The Toxic singer, 41, said she ‘absolutely hated’ her 2012 stint on Simon Cowell’s reality TV show in the book which also covers her turbulent relationships, struggles with fame and 13-year conservatorship.
The pop icon said she was ‘no longer cut out’ for TV appearances and had difficulties embodying the role of a judge, explaining she was unable to ‘act sceptical for eight hours straight.’

Britney, who appeared on the panel alongside Simon, Demi Lovato and Antonio ‘LA’ Reid for one season, revealed she signed up for the singing competition series because she felt like she ‘needed more direction’ and ‘decided to go back to work.’
She continued: ‘I tried to occupy myself by being productive. I began appearing on more TV shows – including, in 2012, as a judge on The X Factor.

‘I think a lot of people are really professional on TV, like Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani. When the cameras on them, they thrive. And that’s great.
‘I used to be able to do that when I was younger, but again, I feel like I age backwards when I‘m afraid.’
The My Prerogative singer said according to the Daily Mail she became ‘very, very nervous’ if she had to be on air and ‘didn’t like being nervous all day long.’

She added: ‘Maybe I’m just not cut out for that anymore. I’ve accepted that now and it’s okay.
‘I can tell people who try to push me in that direction no. I’ve been forced into things I didn’t want to do and been humiliated. It’s not my thing at this point.
‘Now, if you’ve got me a cute cameo on a fun TV show where I’m in and out in a day that’s one thing, but to act sceptical for eight straight hours while judging on TV? Uh, no thank you. I absolutely hated it.’
Britney ended up finishing in second place on The X Factor with then 13-year-old act Carly Rose Sonenclar before quitting the show.

In a statement released at the time, the Oops I Did It Again singer said she was leaving the programme to focus on her music career.
She said: ‘I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens, but it’s time for me to get back in the studio,’ she said in a statement.
‘Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much.’

‘I can’t wait to get back out there and do what I love most.’
Last year, Simon shared his hopes Britney would return to the X Factor, a decade after she appeared.
Reflecting on her judging technique, the music mogul said she was ‘super smart’ and had ‘lovely ideas about how to launch someone else’s career.’
