Ryan Stocks (James Moore) is feeling apprehensive in Emmerdale soon as he prepares to meet Oscar, his teenage son.
The beloved character learnt a few weeks ago that Oscar is seriously underwell and in hospital. Ryan’s girfriend, Gail (Rachael Gill-Davis), said that they needed to be tested to see if they’re a match for Oscar’s stem-cell transplant surgery, but the news overwhelmed Ryan and he reacted badly.
Now over the initial shock, Ryan is finally given the chance to spend time with Oscar in upcoming episodes.
In this new video, Ryan and Gail are outside the ward room talking to Sophie (Martha Cope), Oscar’s adoptive mother.
They talk about Ryan and Gail doing the test for Oscar’s transplant, and Sophie says how grateful she is that they took part in the process to see if they were a match.
An anxious Ryan asks if Oscar would still like to meet him and Sophie says yes, but how will it play out?

‘It’s a totally new thing for Ryan’, James Moore told us.
‘In a way I understand where Ryan is coming from because you find out that the child you had 13, 14 years ago and you haven’t seen in that time is in hospital. It would be a shock and it would be something you would spend a while coming to terms with.
‘These things that Ryan is having to go through, it’s emotionally very hard-hitting. These scenes that are going to play out are very emotional and authentic and real.

‘I think scenes like that are really important because they really add to the humanity of it. How this situation would really have a deeply emotional effect on people.’
Teasing what’s ahead for Ryan and Gail, James hinted that there may be some trouble with Sophie in the near future:

‘What we can look forward to is potentially Ryan and Gail having a relationship with their son. There’ll be a lot to catch up on because they haven’t really seen him for about 13, 14 years. But the issue is they’re not sure about how Sophie, the adoptive mother, feels about that.
‘She’s not sure whether it’s a good idea or not. There’s a worry that Ryan and Gail are going to replace her…’
