Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik has called out Saturday Night Live (SNL) for mocking her ‘undeniably Jewish’ nose in a comedy sketch.
The 1994 skit was a parody of Blossom, an American sitcom that starred the former game show host playing the titular role when she was 14-years-old.
The skit parodied the show’s storylines about teenage sex and Bialik’s co-star Joey Lawrence’s obnoxious catchphrase of “Whoa!” — but the skit also added another detail emphasising that the Jeopardy star was Jewish.
‘The actress portraying me was dancing and mugging for the camera and she was hilarious,’ she wrote in an op-ed for Variety.
‘But. She wore a prosthetic nose. In order to truly convey that she was Blossom, she wore a fake, big nose.’
She continued: ‘I never thought to talk about it and mostly I tried to forget it. I hoped no one noticed. All of my friends at high school watched ‘SNL.’ It wasn’t subtle. They would all see it and I felt ashamed.’

Recalling the controversy surrounding actor Bradley Cooper wearing a fake nose in the upcoming Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro.
After the Hangover star was accused of ‘fuelling antisemitic stereotypes’ Bialik explained that the first look at the film triggered a dark memory.
‘I started scrutinizing the photos of Bradley and Leonard and wondering if it was necessary,’ she revealed.
‘I don’t know how I feel.’

After her time on The Big Bang Theory, for which she received four Emmy nominations, she took on hosting duties of popular gameshow Jeopardy.
She has stayed in the role since 2021 – although she has gone on hiatus as part of the ongoing Sag-Aftra strike, which is still ongoing.
Call Me Kat was cancelled after three seasons following a decline in viewership, and received mostly negative reviews during its time on the air.
