Netflix raises prices despite password crackdown success

Online streaming giant Netflix is hiking prices for some of its subscription plans, despite its success in its recent crackdown on password sharing.

Netflix said monthly charges for its UK basic service would rise by £1 to £7.99 and the advert-free option would increase by £2 to £17.99.

It reflects the company’s growing confidence after adding 8.8 million subscribers from July to September.

It was the most in more than two years.

The US’s premium ad-free plan will cost $3 more per month at $22.99 and in France, subscribers will pay an extra 2 euros a month.

Netflix had faced doubts about bringing in new members as competition rose, price hikes and a Hollywood strike delayed new releases.
