Millie Bobby Brown has revealed that she used to receive backlash for ‘oversharing’ in interviews during the early days of Stranger Things.
The British actress, 19, first appeared on our screens back in 2016 when she was just 12, after securing the role of Eleven in the Netflix sci-fi drama series.
Due to the immense popularity of the series, the young cast were often required to do press interviews, which added greater stress to growing up in public.
In a new interview, the Enola Holmes actress reflected on times when fans used to scour through cast interviewers just to find her interrupting her cast mates.
‘We’re kids – we talk over each other. I was just penalised for over-talking and oversharing and being too loud. [I was called] “stupid” and “a brat”.’
She told Glamour: ‘It’s hard to hear that at 13. You’re like, “I don’t want to ever talk again, I don’t want to be the loud person.” I stayed silent.

‘In interviews, I couldn’t help but think of all the comments. [I spoke] when I was spoken to, even though I was dying to join in. I just felt it wasn’t my turn.’
Later in the same chat, she said that she’s dealt with criticism by building barriers around her life and only allowing a very select few on the inside.
Millie also admitted that she does have trust issues with certain people and that she has found it difficult to make and keep friends during her time in the spotlight.
Describing herself as a ‘reserved person’, the child star – who is engaged to Jake Bongiovi – said that she ‘blocks’ a lot of people out for the sake of maintaining her self-esteem.

Stranger Things is set to return for its fifth and final season in 2025, with the writer and actors’ strike currently affecting future production timetables.
However, fans have already been given small glimpses at future episodes, thanks to the writing team sharing updates about behind-the-scenes work.
In a Twitter post, they shared a freaky animated image of character Steve Harrington, saying season five would ‘look like this’ if a fair deal wasn’t struck.
