Carrie actress Piper Laurie has died at the age of 91.
Laurie’s death was confirmed by her ex-husband, critic Joe Morgenstern, to whom she was married from 1962 until 1982.
Laurie died at her Los Angeles home on Saturday (October 14) after being ill for some time.
The Oscar-nominated film star – also known for her role in The Hustler – has been described as ‘one of the most remarkable and versatile actresses of her day’ by her manager.
Issuing a statement following her death, Marion Rosenberg hailed her ‘a brilliant and creative mind, and a glorious human being.’
Film fanatics will best remember Laurie for playing Carrie’s abusive mother, Margaret White, in the 1976 supernatural horror.

The much-loved movie was an adaptation of Stephen King’s original novel, with Sissy Spacek as the title character.
Laurie’s performance scored her an Academy Award nomination, her second following her nomination for her work in the 1961 film The Hustler, in which she starred opposite Paul Newman.
As well as her work on the silver screen, Laurie was known by TV fans for starring in Twin Peaks.
She portrayed Catherine Martell, who teamed up with Benjamin Horne (played by Richard Beymer) during the first two seasons.
The role earned her a Golden Globe and she was also nominated for an Emmy for each season.

Laurie retired from the industry in the mid-1970s in order to raise a family.
However, she did return a decade later for various film and TV roles.
Throughout her career, in total, Laurie starred in more than 100 films and shows.
Her final part was in 2018’s White Boy Rick, starring alongside Matthew McConaughey as the grandmother of an FBI informant-turned-drug dealer.
Laurie is survived by her daughter, Anna Grace Morgenstern.
