Lawrie Jordan, a story editor for EastEnders, has teased fans with what’s ahead this Christmas after an incredible night for the BBC One soap at the National Television Awards.

The award ceremony, which aired last night (September 5), saw EastEnders pick up three gongs.

Danielle Harold was awarded Serial Drama Performance after the storyline that saw her character, Lola Pearce, die after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Elsewhere, Bobby Brazier picked up the award for Rising Star, while Best Serial Drama was given to yes, you guessed it, EastEnders.

After a difficult few years for the soap, this was an incredible evening – and things look set to get even better for them as the festive season nears ever closer.

Reacting to the award news, story editor Lawrie Jordan wrote on Twitter: ‘Three gongs!! So thrilled for our amazingly dedicated and creative team. People are working day and night to bring you the best version of this show possible. Thanks to everyone who voted for us…and keep watching….Christmas 2023 is going to be epic!’.

Lawrie’s reference to Christmas comes after a flash-forward episode aired in February.

The epic scenes confirmed that a dead body will be found in the Queen Vic on Christmas Day and The Six, aka Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) will all be present.

Fans on social media went wild before the NTAs last night, as red carpet pictures showed the stars wearing their signature The Six colours.

To get people talking even more, some of the male stars were spotted wearing cufflinks, an item of jewellery which will be on the dead body in the pub at Christmas.
