Gary Neville identifies two signings Manchester United must make before transfer window closes on Friday

Gary Neville believes Manchester United must make two more signings before the summer transfer window closes on Friday.

United made Mason Mount their first signing of the summer in July with Andre Onana later brought in from Inter Milan as a long-term replacement for David de Gea.

Rasmus Hojlund has also joined the club in a £72million deal from Atalanta, with the 20-year-old hopeful of making his debut against Arsenal on Sunday.

United however have looked unconvincing in their first three games of the season with an injury to Luke Shaw prompting a search for another option at left-back with Tyrell Malacia also sidelined.

Reports in Spain suggest they are close to signing Marc Cucurella on loan from Chelsea with Sergio Reguilon and Marcos Alonso also being considered.

The club are also on the hunt for another central midfielder with Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat and Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch two players of interest.

United have sought to trim their squad of dead wood this summer with Fred, Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga among those to be moved on with Dean Henderson expected to join Crystal Palace this week.

End-of-window activity may hinge on whether there are further sales at Old Trafford but former skipper Neville believes it is vital another left-back arrives along with a central midfielder to ease the pressure on Casemiro in the middle of the park.

‘I think they have to try and do something in the transfer market this week,’ Neville told his Sky Sports Podcast.

‘They have got to try and get players out, some clubs get players out really well – United don’t tend to get players out really well.

‘They’ve got better players in this summer but there’s no doubt they want another player or two, a left-back and a central midfield player.

‘I think they need that or else they’re going to be put under real pressure, particularly when all the other competitions kick in.

‘There is another one or two players needed just to beef up the squad because of injuries. He does want another midfield player in there to sit alongside Casemiro, so it’s an important week for United before Arsenal [on Sunday].’
