A BBC presenter apologised during the live broadcast of the Women’s World Cup final 2023 over a commentary mishap as annoyed viewers shared their frustrations on Twitter.

On Sunday August 20, England’s Lionesses put on a brilliant fight against Spain, but sadly were forced to face a 1-0 defeat during the intense match held in Australia.

While people across the nation tuned in to watch and support the team on the BBC, some couldn’t help but express their disappointment over the fact that they could hear Spanish commentators excitedly commenting on the game in the background.

Some even admitted that they’d switched over to ITV, with one tweeting: ‘I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve had to switch channels from @BBCOne to @officalITV due to the Spanish commentary being so loud! Shame really as I prefer the BBC commentary.’

Another said: ‘Sorry BBC, had to switch to ITV as can hear the Spanish commentary more than the English!!!’

The mishap was addressed live on-air by a BBC commentator, who issued an apology.

We were watching the final on @bbc but commentary was being spoilt by someone shouting in Spanish switched to @itv much better #WorldCupFinal

Robyn Cowen, who was commentating alongside Rachel Brown-Finnis, said: ‘Apologies if you were hearing our Spanish colleagues, who are already very, very up for this,’ according to LADbible.

While there were a number of complaints on Twitter over the English commentary of the match being interrupted by Spanish presenters, some found the crossover comical.

‘I kinda like this mix of English and Spanish commentary on the BBC!’ one person remarked.

Several celebrities proclaimed their support for the Lionesses after their loss in the final, including Gary Lineker, Carol Vorderman and Gemma Atkinson.

‘Congratulations Spain….And thank you Lionesses for all you’ve done for women in the UK,’ tweeted former Countdown star Carol.

‘I know it won’t feel like it right now, but from an old bird whose early dreams were stopped by the “system”, you have given us such hope for the future (long after I’ve gone). Thank you ❤️.’

‘The @Lionesses keeping it going right to the last seconds. We’re all proud of ya!!!!
