If you’re a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fan, you’ll be amazed by the prospect of living in the very windmill that the Potts family did in the 1968 movie.

Bear in mind, though, you’ll need to have a fortune equal to the wealthy Truly Scrumptious to buy it, as it’s on the market for a whopping £9million.

Cobstone Mill, also known as Turville Windmill, is situated in Ibstone, Buckinghamshire, around 20 minutes from High Wycombe in the idyllic countryside.

In Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which starred Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes, it served as the home of inventor Caractacus Potts and his children, Jemima and Jeremy.

Prior to becoming an iconic piece of movie history, it was used as a working cereal mill from its building in 1816 until 1873, when squatters caused a fire which damaged the structure’s centre post.

After a long period where it was left to deteriorate, Cobstone Mill was cosmetically restored in the 1960s so it could be used as a film set.

The sale also comes with a main house built with flint (Picture: Ed Kingsford Photography/Savills)

Pollyanna and Wild at Heart actress Hayley Mills and her first husband Roy Boulting then bought the still-dilapidated property in 1971, bringing it back to its former glory through extensive renovations.

David Brown, the late former owner of Aston Martin was among its owners since, while the mill has also features in the likes of Goodnight Mister Tom, Midsomer Murders, Little Britain, and Jonathan Creek.

Its current owners have spent the last 18 months restoring the Grade II listed building’s exterior sails, while the interior has had a makeover too.

On the ground floor is a large living room and a winding staircase, which leads up to two bedrooms on the first and second floors, with views across the Hambleden Valley.

Additionally included in the sale is 37 acres of land with a swimming pool and outbuildings, plus a separate house comprising six bedrooms.

Within the main flint house spanning almost 2,592 square feet, you’ll find a double-height drawing room with floor to ceiling doors opening out onto a large terrace overlooking the sheltered swimming pool.

And in case that’s still not enough room for you, planning consent was granted in 2016 to substantially extend and add a number of extra rooms, so you can turn the place into the fantasmagorical home of your dreams.

Stephen Christie-Miller, of marketing agent Savills, said: ;From the beautiful architecture of the windmill to the spectacular views down the Hambleden Valley, Cobstone Mill has to be seen to be believed and this is even before you bring into consideration the home’s extensive film history.

‘I am sure that the homes unique heritage combined with today’s offering, in a prime Buckinghamshire location, will appeal to both domestic and international buyers that are looking for the best of the best.

‘Yes, some homes claim to be iconic, however nothing comes close to Cobstone Mill.’

Nicholas Brown, of Private View Property, added: ‘I am very fortunate to have acted in the sale and purchase of a great many of the finest homes over the course of 40 years.

‘However, I can safely say that Cobstone Mill is perhaps the very best known of them all. It is a true landmark and the setting and views are without doubt breath-taking.

‘To be able to market this iconic property is a huge privilege and for the next lucky owners, imagine inviting your friends to come and stay at the best-known windmill in the world.’

Unfortunately it doesn’t come with a flying car, but we can dream.
