Manchester United identify Amadou Onana as Sofyan Amrabat alternative as Juventus eye Morocco star

Manchester United have identified Everton star Amadou Onana as an alternative to Sofyan Amrabat should they fail to land the Fiorentina ace.

Amrabat has agreed personal terms with Manchester United over a move to Old Trafford but the Red Devils are yet to agree a fee with Fiorentina.

United have been waiting to clear out their midfield before bidding for Amrabat.

Fred joined Fenerbahce in a £11m deal this weekend but the likes of Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay could also leave.

Until those players are gone, United won’t bid for Amrabat and that’s opened the door for Juventus to hijack the deal.

Even if the Serie A giants can’t beat United to his signature, they will raise the price simply through their interest.

It’s led United to explore other options and the Daily Mail say Onana is high on Erik ten Hag’s shortlist.

The 21-year-old was a leading light for Everton last season, despite the Toffees’ struggles.

It was Onana’s first season in the Premier League following his move from Lille, with the midfielder making 33 league appearances.

United are currently focused on signing a central defender after they accepted a £30m bid for Harry Maguire from West Ham.

Bayern Munich have rejected an opening proposal from United for Benjamin Pavard but the two sides remain in talks.
