Express Sport – I’m so sorry
England’s Lauren James has apologised for her red card against Nigeria in the Women’s World Cup and the Express are leading on the story.
The EXPRESS says England star Lauren James has issued a public apology to Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie following her sending off during the Lionesses Women’s World Cup win on Monday. The attacker was dismissed late on after the pair became involved in a minor scuffle off the ball and she has now spoken out on the incident as she faces an anxious wait over her punishment.
The 21-year-old was sent off in the 87th minute after the referee opted to upgrade the decision from a yellow card to red, following an intervention from VAR officials and a lengthy check on the pitchside monitor.
Responding to Alozie, who made her own statement on social media, James tweeted: “All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened.
“Also, for our England fans and my team-mates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience.”
