Reiss had a baby proposal for Sonia (Pictures: BBC)
Reiss Colwell (Jonny freeman) took Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) completely by surprise in recent EastEnders scenes when he made a suggestion about their future.
Sonia and Reiss have been on the rocks this week following Sonia’s recent pregnancy scare.
Reiss was horrified when he found a pregnancy test in Sonia’s bag, and we later learned that this was because he is infertile.
Without having asked her for the result, he demanded to know who she had cheated on him with, dropping the bombshell that he couldn’t have kids so she must have been sleeping around.
Furious and hurt Sonia fired back that the test was negative, leaving Reiss with some serious grovelling to do.
However, when he tried, Sonia wanted to know why he’d got his sperm tested when he’d been so adamant the previous week that he didn’t want children.
She eventually came to the conclusion that he did want them, just not with her.
In order to prove how he really felt, Reiss made a shocking suggestion in tonight’s (August 8) episode, after tracking Sonia down in the Albert.
He explained that he did want children, but it was easier to say that he didn’t like them than admitting that he couldn’t have them.
When he shared his worries that he doesn’t know how to act around them, Sonia insisted that he would be a brilliant dad.

It was then that he revealed that they did have one option, which was to try IVF. As he produced several leaflets from his bag, he asked Sonia if she would like to try for a baby with him.
Sonia was understandably taken aback by how fast he was moving, given that only yesterday he had accused her of sleeping with Zack Hudson (James Farrar).
When Sonia pointed out that he was still married to Debbie, who is currently receiving full time hospice care, Reiss insisted that she would want him to be happy, and having a baby with Sonia would do that.

As Reiss left Sonia to think about his proposal, it became clear that she didn’t know what to do.
Confiding in Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), she revealed that she wasn’t sure how she felt about the suggestion, and worried that she may be setting herself up for a fall if she decided to go through with the IVF.
Whitney urged her to speak to Reiss about the whole thing, leaving Sonia with a difficult conversation ahead.
