Australia 2-0 Denmark: Co-hosts book their place in last-8 in confident performance

Australia have booked their spot in the quarter-final after beating Denmark 2-0.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup co-hosts played in front of a packed stadium.

Australia went ahead in the 29th minute when Caitlin Foord put the Matildas ahead, following a great pass from Mary Fowler.

Hayley Raso added a second goal in the 70th minute with a driven finish after good work from Emily van Egmond.

Australia will face either France or Morocco in the last-8 on Saturday in what will likely be a lively and tight game.

    Sam Kerr returns

Australia’s star player Sam Kerr made an appearance in this tournament when she was given some minutes towards the end of the match.

Kerr has been benched so far in the tournament due to a calf injury.

Many will be happy to see her gain a few minutes as she will undoubtedly be important for the Matildas going forward.

Australia had only ever reached the last-8 at the World Cup once before, in 2015.

It was a slow start against Denmark but as soon as the first goal was found, the stadium erupted, and the Matildas grew quickly in confidence to dominate the rest of the match.
