Maybe reading this right now is a part of your procrastination.
But at Manuscript Writing Café, in Koenji, Tokyo, you wouldn’t be allowed to get away with it.
Designed for writers and artists on a deadline, or just anyone trying to force themselves to get on with it, the café takes it’s anti-procrastination stance seriously.
A TikTokker went ‘for the full experience’ and had to fill out a ‘contract’ stating what work they wanted to complete before they were ‘allowed’ to leave, and selected ‘hard’ for the level of check-ins they wanted.
Staff continually checked on him and said they’ve had people stay overnight before – which shows you how seriously they take it.
When he tried to leave after doing most but not all of his work, he said: ‘I got a ton of work done, but not all.
‘I tried to show him so I could leave, but when I showed him he noticed my work wasn’t fully complete so he sent me back to my workspace.’
The staff member sent him back with drinks, snacks and ‘guarded the door’.
Two hours later, he finished his work and was allowed to leave.
Signs staff point at you say things like ‘Keep it up!’, glare and watch your screen.
Though the TikTok creator thought the café was a ‘touristy gimmick’, he was shocked at how seriously they took it all.
It sounds like the perfect place for making deadlines.
Get it done.
