2023 Women’s World Cup: What is the Round of 16? Who’s facing who, when and how to watch

The 2023 Women’s World Cup has so far been truly the best edition of the tournament, with shocks and upsets along the way, one thing is clear: the women’s game is fast developing.

Big names such as two-time winners Germany and Brazil have been knocked out. Current reigning champions USA barely scraped through to the last-16 after being held to a goalless draw with Portugal, and a flurry of smaller teams have announced themselves on football’s biggest stage.

The group stages are now over and as of Saturday 5 August, the second round of the tournament kicks off.

The Round of 16 – also referred to as the last-16 or the knockout stages, sees the top two teams from each group face off.

Example: If you finish in top place in Group A you would play the second place team of Group B.

The teams which win their last-16 matches will progress to the quarter-finals of the 2023 World Cup.

Here’s who’s facing who and at what time.

Following the last-16 they’ll be eight teams heading into the quarter-finals, four into the semi-finals before the last two will face off in what will likely be a nail-biting final on 20 August.

The battle for third place will take place on 19 August.
