Wait, did The Simpsons predict that the Titanic submarine would go missing?
Fans seem to think so, as eerie footage from a past episode has resurfaced, showing Homer’s underwater ‘treasure tour.’
It comes as time runs out for the missing sub which, known as Titan, has been missing in the depths of the ocean since Sunday (June 18).
Carrying five passengers, the vessel intended to explore the wreckage of the sunken Titanic ship before something went wrong, leaving those on board fighting for their lives with decreasing oxygen levels.
Now in true Simpsons style, viewers reckon they had an inkling about what was to come…
First aired in 2016, the episode titled Simpsons Tide follows Homer as he goes on an expedition, reuniting with his long-lost dad, Mason.

However, during their treasure excursion, Homer’s submersible gets stuck in a coral cave.
In a clip shared to social media, Mason says: ‘Today I’m filled with joy, searching for treasure with my long lost son.
‘My dream for each of you is that you find the happiness I feel today.’
‘These waters contain some of Mother Nature’s most stunning creatures.’
The duo then seek to find a sunken ship – ringing any bells?
‘Homer, look! The treasure of Piso Mojado,’ Mason says.
It isn’t long though before Homer gets lost, following a fish into a cave, mistaking it for his dad (somehow).

The much-loved character frantically tries to manoeuvre his way out and, in perhaps the creepiest part of all, his control panel flashes with an ‘oxygen low’ sign.
He then saw it flash to red and say ‘oxygen gone’.
Thankfully, Homer managed to get free but lost consciousness in the sub.
He was found but woke up three days later in hospital.
Naturally, the whole thing has given the internet the heebie-jeebies, as the animation has become famous for predicting major events.
‘Crazy how the Simpsons already predicted about the missing submarine’, one person tweeted.
‘Ain’t no way the simpsons predicted the submarine incident’, another wrote.

‘Idk what surprises y’all of the lost submarine in the Atlantic that went down to see the remains of the Titanic. The Simpsons had already warned us’, another added.
In another bone-chilling development, the episode was actually produced by Mike Reiss, who has been on expeditions with the Titanic sub company OceanGate Expeditions.
The showrunner went on three different dives, and has said that they ‘almost always lost communication’.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast this week, the producer shared his experiences and said he wasn’t ‘optimistic’ about the missing passengers being found alive, but added that they knew what they were ‘getting themselves into.’
‘If it’s down at the bottom I don’t know how anyone is going to be able to access it, much less bring it back up,’ he began.
‘I got on the sub and at the back of my mind was, “Well, I may never get off this thing,” that’s always with you.’

On the experience the current passengers will have had, he explained that the risks are made clear.
‘People should know, to even get on the boat that takes you to the Titanic, you sign a massive waiver that lists one way after another that you could die on the trip,’ he said, adding that the documents mention death ‘three times on page one’.
‘Nobody who is in this situation was caught off guard. It’s very bad things broke this way but you all know what you’re getting into.
‘It’s really exploration. It’s not a vacation and it’s not thrill-seeking. It’s not like sky diving, or something. These are explorers and travellers who want to see something.’

The passengers aboard the submarine are said to have paid $250,000 (£195k) for the experience.
Missing are British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Sulaiman Dawood, and Stockton Rush, the founder of OceanGate.
