Tottenham are set to sign Empoli star Guglielmo Vicario, despite agreeing personal terms with David Raya over a move to the club.
The Spaniard had been the club’s first choice to replace Hugo Lloris, who has offers on the table from Saudi Arabia.
Raya has one year left on his Brentford deal and the Bees have made no secret of their intention to sell the Spaniard, given he’s clarified that he will not sign an extension.
However, the Bees’ asking price has been set at £40m and that was determined long before the season was completed.
Spurs were well aware of Brentford’s valuation when they agreed personal terms with Raya but they were hopeful that the club would lower it once the window opened.
Vicario is set to join Spurs
That wasn’t the case, and Spurs were unprepared to pay that much for the 27-year-old.
That’s led to a £17m move for Vicario, who is set to sign a five-year deal at the club.
The Italian will become Ange Postecoglou’s first signing at the club since his appointment from Celtic.
