Boris Johnson: MPs back Partygate report as just seven vote against

MPs have overwhelmingly supported a report that concluded former prime minister Boris Johnson intentionally misled Parliament regarding lockdown parties at Downing Street.

The report, produced by a cross-party committee, received backing from the Commons with a vote of 354 to seven.

The committee’s findings revealed that Johnson repeatedly violated Covid regulations by claiming that all guidelines were followed at No 10.

While some of Johnson’s allies questioned the committee’s impartiality and voted against the report, senior Conservatives including former PPM Theresa May, Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt, and Education Secretary Gillian Keegan supported the report’s conclusions.

118 Tories voted in favour of the report, seven voted against it and a whopping 225 MPs either abstained or did not participate in the vote.

Johnson had told supporters not to vote against the report, arguing it had not practical effect now he had resigned, but critics say it was an attempt to avoid exposing his diminished support among Tory MPs.

As a result of the vote, Boris Johnson will lose his parliamentary pass, which grants him access to certain areas of Parliament, as recommended by the report.
