A man fell 4,000ft to his death from the Grand Canyon Skywalk, as the national park of the same name was ranked America’s deadliest.

The 33-year-old unnamed man went over the attraction’s edge on the morning of June 5.

Ropes and a helicopter were used by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office to try and rescue him but he died at the scene.

The county sheriff’s search and rescue team said in a statement posted on Facebook: ‘Two short-haul technicians (rope specialists) responded with Kingman DPS Ranger helicopter to the scene and determined the man was deceased.’

It is not clear whether the man fell from the edge of the canyon or from the Skywalk structure itself.

The county search and rescue team posted a link to a suicide prevention hotline on Facebook.

The investigation into the man’s death is ongoing but the Grand Canyon is a dangerous spot for visitors.

Grand Canyon National Park – which is not affiliated with the Skywalk – was named the deadliest national park in the United States.

At least six people have died and 56 more have gone missing over the last five years at Grand Canyon National Park.

A tourist plunged to his death after losing his footing while trying to take a selfie at the edge of the Grand Canyon in 2019.

The unnamed man, who was in his late 50s and from Hong Kong, slipped off a 1,000-foot high overlook at Eagle Point observation area, situated at the western end of the famous gorge in Arizona.

A helicopter was dispatched to recover his body shortly after. The area where the man fell was closed off to tourists for the rest of the day.

A 67-year-old man died and four others were injured when a motorboat flipped over on rapids in Grand Canyon National Park last September.

The boat overturned just after 2pm at Bedrock Rapid on the Colorado River, a large rocky island that divides the river into two channels, the Grand Canyon National Park Service said.

Park officials identified the man as Ronald Vanderlugt, a 67-year-old visiting the park while on the fifth day of a multi-day commercial river trip. Officials did not say where Vanderlugt was from at the time.
