Following the coronation back in May, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to take part in another historic ceremony – that of Trooping the Colour, a centuries-old royal tradition which predates even the late Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

The parade marks the monarch’s official birthday in June – even though King Charles does not celebrate his actual birthday until November.

With the King having become sovereign last September following Queen Elizabeth’s death, this will be the first time the parade has been held in his honour – and Charles is expected to preside over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians taking part in the event.

And as per usual it’ll all be shown on TV – but what time should you tune in and where can you watch it?

What time is the Trooping The Colour parade?

Trooping The Colour is set to begin at around 10am when the Royal Family leave Buckingham Palace in a procession towards Horse Guards.

The Horse Guard Parade begins at around 10.30am, with the royals returning to the Palace at around 12.25pm.

You can then expect them to appear on the balcony at around 12.55pm, with the royal flypast set to take place shortly after at 1pm.

This year’s ceremony will see the King revive an old Royal tradition as he becomes the first monarch for 30 years to take part in the event on horseback.

The last time this happened was when Queen Elizabeth II rode in the parade in 1986 – but she later opted to be driven in a carriage after Burmese, her favourite horse for Trooping The Colour and royal occasions, was retired.

Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward will ride horseback alongside the King in the parade.

How to watch Trooping The Colour

Live coverage of Trooping The Colour begins on BBC One on Saturday morning from 10.30am, running all the way through until 1.10pm – although given it’s a live broadcast it could run later.

BBC Two will show highlights of the parade from 5.55pm until 7.25pm.

Alternatively, if you miss it you’ll be able to catch up via BBC iPlayer.

The coverage will be presented by Huw Edwards, with JJ Chalmers on hand to interview some of those associated with the day.
