Manchester City are exploring a deal to sign West Ham captain Declan Rice after the Hammers rejected an opening offer from Arsenal for the midfielder.
The England international is set to leave the club this summer after guiding them to Europa Conference League success earlier this month.
Rice effectively has two years left on his deal at the London Stadium but he wants to play Champions League football next term.
Arsenal had been leading the race to sign Rice and held positive talks with his representatives last month.
It was agreed that any negotiations would be curbed until the end of the season but talks have ramped up in recent days.

According to the Guardian, Arsenal submitted an opening offer for Rice after talks with the Hammers on Wednesday but it was immediately rejected.
The Hammers are said to be unimpressed with the structure of the offer, and deem it to be too low in any case.
Now the Athletic claim that City are now actively exploring a move for the midfielder and could hijack Arsenal’s move.
Ilkay Gundogan could leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month, while Kevin De Bruyne is set to miss the start of the season with a hamstring strain.
