Aston Villa have won the race to sign Youri Tielemans on a free transfer this summer, agreeing a deal for the midfielder after his departure from Leicester City.
The 26-year-old’s stint of four-and-a-half years with the Foxes came to an end when the Premier League season finished, a campaign which saw the club relegated to the Championship.
Relegation meant there was no chance that the Belgium international was going to stay at the King Power and a string of Premier League clubs circled for his signature.
The likes of Arsenal and Newcastle were linked with snapping up Tielemans but The Athletic report that Villa have beaten their rivals to the signing.
The report states that the Belgian is completing his medical on Saturday and is on the verge of completing his move to Villa Park.
The former Monaco star won the FA Cup with Leicester, making 195 appearances across all competitions, scoring 28 goals.
Tielemans is the first signing of the summer for Villa but is very unlikely to be the last as they prepare for a Europa Conference League campaign under Unai Emery.
Villa finished the season impressively, with Emery making a huge impression since his arrival from Villarreal in October.
The side were 16th in the Premier League table when he was appointed, replacing Steven Gerrard, and they finished seventh thanks to a win over Brighton on the final day of the season.
