‘Real’ reason behind Phillip Schofield and Eamonn Holmes’ feud explained

Eamonn Holmes was one of the first celebrities to weigh in on the Phillip Schofield and This Morning saga.

The Northern Irish broadcaster, 63, gave a sensational interview with GB News’ with Dan Wootton after the former This Morning presenter admitted to an ‘unwise but not illegal affair’ with a runner.

Eamonn, who is married to Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford, branded Phillip, 61, a ‘narcissist’, claimed he would have ‘playtime’ with the youngster on Thursdays and alleged  Holly Willoughby, 42, and Phillip ‘didn’t know people’s names behind the scenes of This Morning’.

He also said he was ‘ashamed’ of how he supported Schofield when he came out as gay, saying he felt ‘used’ and described his coming out episode a ‘performance’.

Eamonn, like Dr Ranj Singh, went on to claim This Morning was ‘toxic’, which Phillip shut down when interviewed by the BBC’s Amol Rajan.

Philip said: ‘I am, obviously, unaware of any of that. I mean, all of that goes on elsewhere.

‘All I see is angry people shouting about a show they’re not on anymore.’

However, now the reasons behind Phillip and Eamonn’s bad blood has been reportedly exposed.

A source told the Daily Mail: ‘Phillip had the red carpet treatment. He and Holly were seen as stars. All TV is a hierarchy and they were paid far more. Eamonn chafed against it.

‘His rider [the requests a star makes for their dressing room] was a block of inexpensive cheese, but Phillip would get lovely wines brought in from Farr Vintners.

‘Eamonn couldn’t see how someone like him, a proper journalist, would come beneath the bloke who was in the broom cupboard with Gordon The Gopher.’

Eamonn has also lashed out at Holly, ahead of her return to This Morning on Monday, branding her a ‘big mouth.’

Phillip’s exit from This Morning and ITV isn’t the first occasion that Eamonn has spoken out against him.

In September last year, he lashed out at Holly and Phillip over queuegate, calling them ‘arrogant’ despite the pair denying that they had jumped ahead of the queue to see the late Queen Elizabeth II lying in state, and insisting that they had ‘respected’ the rules laid out for members of the media.

In 2019, it was reported that Eamonn’s wife Ruth had filed a formal complaint against Phillip, and while speaking to GB News’ Dan, Eamonn addressed this report head on.

‘But that was because he was so rude,’ he said in response to the complaint being brought up by Wootton, before later claiming that Schofield was ‘dismissive’ of the Loose Women.

Holly Willoughby’s statement in full as she returns to This Morning after Phillip Schofield exit

‘Hi there, good morning. Josie, thank you for being here. Right, deep breath. Firstly, are you ok? I hope so. It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil.

‘I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on and full of questions.

‘You me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process, and it’s equally hard to see the toll that it’s taken on their own mental health.

‘I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal, for the health and wellbeing of everyone.

‘I hope that we start this new chapter and get back to a place of warmth and magic that this show holds for all of us, we can find strength in each other.

‘From my heart, can I just say thank you for all of your kind messages and thank you for being here this morning. Myself, Josie, Dermot, Alison, Craig and every single person that works on this show will continue to work hard every single day to bring you this show that we love.’

Phillip insisted his former lover was 20-years-old when they first had sexual contact in his This Morning dressing room.

Holly was tearful as she returned to This Morning on Monday for the first time since her former co-host’s exit.
