US rock band Metallica made a very generous donation to a local UK charity after blowing fans’ minds at Download festival.

The legendary band rocked up to the East Midlands this week as they performed a double headliner at the iconic festival shortly after the release of their 11th studio album.

Boasting millions of fans across the UK, their Download sets were massively anticipated – and the band didn’t disappoint, blasting out tracks from Fade To Black to Master Of Puppets and Nothing Else Matters.

As well as making it an unforgettable night for the fans, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo then made a real difference as they donated a whopping £40,000 to a local homeless charity.

Shortly after coming off stage, Metallica’s official non-profit organisation All Within My Hands announced they had given a generous grant to Help the Homeless Leicester.

The official All Within My Hands Twitter account tweeted: ‘After an awesome first night of @Metallica’s #M72 World Tour at @DownloadFest, we were proud to grant £40,000 to @homelessleics.’

They added: ‘This grant will help HTH in its goal to provide relief from homelessness by gaining insight from those most at risk, and by working in complement with other service-providing organizations, all while fostering a platform for empowerment and independence for those in need.’

Help The Homeless Leicester later shared the post giving a ‘massive thank you to Metallica from all at HTH.’

The band aren’t finished yet in the UK – their second night at Download is just hours away, as they take to the stage at the festival on Saturday night.

It comes as part of their 72 world tour, which has seen the band sign on to play two nights in every city they visit, with completely different set list and support acts each night of the city.

Fans will have the option of buying two-day tickets for both shows in the city, with some taking place the very next day and others seeing a few days between them.

Metallica recently clinched a number one album in the UK charts with new record 72 Seasons – their first number one in 15 years.

It is their first collection of new material since 2016, and has outsold their last five albums combined.
